口語式短文:可怕的颱風

A horrible typhoon :

•  Last week my cousin John came to Pingtung to join me to participate in the Mowgli summer camp. Originally the camp would end on Friday, but it was deferred due to the approach of a typhoon.

•  Typhoon Morakot started lashing Taiwan last Thursday night while John and I slept in the air-conditioned wood floor room. As we listened to the sound of heavy blowing wind at midnight, we actually felt exciting about it.

•  The wind blew from the north the whole day of Friday. Although we couldn't go out to play, we still had a fun time telling jokes and playing transformer robots and Wii games indoors.

•  But mom and dad were worried about the whole day's north wind. They felt the typhoon was moving too slowly.

•  When it came to Friday night, dad feared that the wind would change its direction from north to south. So he told me and John to keep ourselves away from the window facing south when we slept in the wood floor room.

•  After getting up on Saturday morning, I found that the door and windows facing south had been closed and locked tight. Because the typhoon had already started blowing from the south.

•  Soon after breakfast, dad and mom suddenly became busy. Owing to the heavy wind, the rainwater seeped in through the chinks under the air conditioners. Our three bedrooms were all soaked in water!

•  Watching mom and dad busy all day Saturday with mopping floors, wringing towels and draining water made me feel that the typhoon was really horrible.

•  Because of continuous wind and rain, the Pingtung County government announced typhoon breaks for three consecutive days. The last day's classes of our summer camp were not made up until this past Monday.
