Journey to the West :
A comic-strip version of the Journey to the West is my favorite book for extracurricular reading.
The book tells about the pilgrimage journey made by Tang San-Zang to India for Buddhist scriptures.
Riding a white horse, Tang San-Zang himself alone took the road which was filled with various demons and monsters.
With the secret help of Bodhisattva Guanyin, Tang San-Zang had successively received Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing as his disciples.
Sun Wukong had a formidable weapon called will-following golden-banded staff. He also knew the skill of cloud somersaulting and had mastered seventy-two methods of transformations. It was always him that defeated the fiercest demons.
But my favorite character is Zhu Bajie, because he was very funny in the comic book. In addition, his nine-toothed rake was a very powerful weapon.
Yet my dad says that in the standard text version, Zhu Bajie was the craftiest. He often falsely accused Sun Wukong and bullied Sha Wujing.
Throughout the journey, they had defeated the White Bone Demon three times, expelled the Yellow-Robe Demon back to Heaven, and made Buffalo Demon-King and Princess Iron Fan surrender themselves.
They finally arrived at India. Tang San-Zang obtained valuable scriptures from Buddha and then they returned to China.
