口語式短文:現代徐霞客

Modern-day Xu Xiake:

•  My paternal elder cousin Guang-yu just returned from Europe this past Monday. He and my uncle (i.e., his father) had backpacked Europe for nineteen days.

•  Since my uncle works at an airline company, they went to Europe by taking advantage of the free tickets for employees and their families.

•  They entered Europe through Frankfurt. Using trains, river boats and buses, they had visited ten several German cities. At night they stayed at cheap youth hostels. Sometimes they also took the overnight sleeping trains.

•  In addition to Germany, they had also been to Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia in this trip. At the end they took the airplane from Vienna back to Taiwan.

•  Guang-yu and my uncle had also backpacked Japan for ten several days in the past winter vacation of this year. Although I have been to Japan several times, too, the scope of my journeys was not comparable to that of theirs.

•  Dad tells me that Guang-yu and my uncle were very frugal during their backpacking trips but didn't sacrifice the things they really wanted to see. Besides, since they stayed at youth hostels, they've made many foreign friends.

•  Dad says that there was a man named Xu Xiake in the Ming Dynasty. He had used thirty years to walk and travel around everywhere in China. His footprints were left in many famous mountains, big rivers, great cities, and small towns.

•  Dad commends that light-luggaged but far-reaching backpackers like Guang-yu and my uncle are typical modern-day Xu Xiakes.

•  Guang-yu is now a college student. Dad wishes me to be a modern-day Xu Xiake like Guang-yu when I grow up.
